Question: Who can I trust as friends?

Dear Lounge Advice,
I am new to your site and new to the internet chat scene. I have always been too trusting, and have had a sketchy situation develop. My question is how does one really get to know a "friend" online? Who can you trust?

Thank you and Safe Journeys,
Ready

P.S. I love the site!!!! It truly is amazing!!! Keep up the good work, you should be proud.

Sincerely,

(Anonymous)

Dear (Anonymous),

The best advice I can give you is that there are no sure fire 'friends' in the online world. Be extremely prudent with whom you trust. Some can masquerade as your friends, yet it can turn out to be a farce. Faith in others, for us, is not given easily. With everyone we meet, we hold back our trust for a long time, until it is properly earned, and the term 'friend' isn't something we use loosely. Use your gut when it comes to who you can really trust. Your instinct is your best friend. If you feel that your instincts about people aren't up to par, air on the side of caution and keep your guard up. Ironically, people who seek to deceive usually go after those who don't have that innate ability to sense veiled motives, or those who are too trusting. Don't fall prey to these kinds by giving away such a precious commodity as your trust. Putting credence in people's motives opens you up violation.
Take this from someone who learned the hard way :)
