Question: My wife expresses herself better around strangers than friends

Dear Lounge Advice,

My wife and I have more fun when we don't know anybody at a lifestyle party than when we do. Sounds strange, but being anonymous seems to make her more free to express herself physically in front of complete strangers. We only play with each other and have had a lot of fun in play rooms being around others and sharing the excitement.

Is this normal?

I thought as we developed friendships with other non-vanilla couples she would feel freer to express herself around them, not less.

Signed a little confused....

Dear (Anonymous),

Well, whether or not it's normal, that's the way it is with her. You shouldn't worry so much about how 'normal' her behavior is. You should instead, allow her to feel confortable. If she's more uninhibited in a group of strangers, then stick to doing that. Perhaps, in time, she will come to find more of a comfort level around familiars. Until then, it's completely ok for her to want to be around an anonymous crowd, as long as you're both having fun.
