Question: How to deal with someone who is lying about you

Dear Lounge Advice,

THERE IS A CURRENT MEMBER THAT IS SAYING UNTRUE THINGS ABOUT ME TO OTHER MEMBERS. HOW DO I ADDRESS THIS WITH LL.

CONCERNED

Sincerely,

(Anonymous)

Dear (Anonymous),

Confront this person with what you have heard. Do so politely, but firmly. Approach them via e-mail by saying that you have heard these things and ask why there is miscommunication ensuing. Consider telling this person that you have heard through others that mistruths are being told, and that perhaps you heard wrong. Allow him/her to relay their side of the story without making them feel defensive or insulted. Again, be polite. For all you know, this may not be as it seems, and if this member isn't doing something quite this heinous, you don't want to be the one with mud on your face, so to speak. Be the better person and allow them to explain.
