Question: Legalities behind throwing a private swinger's party

Dear Lounge Advice,

We access have a 7 million dollar house in the plush Rancho Mirage area in the Palm Springs vicinity. Its on an acre and a half in a wealthy gated community with only 5 mansions on the block. There is an incredible 400k pool that would beat most swanky hotel pools with a bridge, fire in the middle at night, jacuzzi waterfall and a pagoda with beds, not to mention a 300k landscaping job with a 9 hole putting green.

Anyways, I think this would be the perfect place to throw some swingers parties, but wanted to know the legalities from you about charging at the door, bar, food, etc... Also is it ok to send e-mails to people on your site as well??

Any ideas.........

Thanks,

Interested

Sincerely,

(Anonymous)

Dear (Anonymous),

Ok, here's the deal with charging. You can charge if you wish, but you cannot provide your guests with the alcohol. You will have to make your guests bring their own liquor. If you're charging and providing the liquor, it becomes a commercial enterprise. Then, you are subject to all legal entwinement that a regular bar would have to face, including necessary permits. So, if you're set on charging, provide mixers only.
I'm not sure if the same applies to food, but I would worry about the alcohol above all else since it is more of a liabilty. It is perfectly okay for you to send e-mail about your event on the site.
