Question: Coming out as an alcoholic- will this change how others feel about me?

Dear Lounge Advice, I've recently decided to out myself as an alcoholic. I'm concerned that this might change how people feel about me as a playmate.

What do you feel about this?

Dear (Anonymous),

I'm going to be very direct here.
If you're willing to admit this and come out with it, DO IT. That's a HUGE step and it needs to be done if you are ready.

I want you to listen to me and truly take what I have to say to heart. I say this to a lot of people, but it's so very relevant to you right now:

It does NOT matter how anyone looks upon you if you decide to come out with this. Are you listening? YOU are the first priority right now and YOU need to take care of YOU.
You should not give a damn about others' perceptions at this stage. If you are truly serious about taking this first big step and following on with a program, there will come a time when you will have the opportunity to apologize to anyone this has affected along the way.
Even then, you will not need to worry yourself about how people see you as a playmate. You will only be working on how you see yourself as a person and how others can value and help you as a healing individual.

Go look in the mirror after you are done reading this. I mean it. Do this.
Ask yourself "Whose opinion about myself matters most and who do I most need to look upon with approval?"

Your answer will be apparent and profound.
