Question: IM etiquette

Dear Lounge Advice,

What is proper IM etiquette? If you are chatting with someone and that person is preoccupied, perhaps answering the phone, chatting with someone else, taking the dog out to shit, perhaps rubbing one out to all the cock bombers, shouldn't they perhaps let the person they are chatting with, BRB, OTP, perhaps gmamitas or even Hyamfihsohtuticwspgbsoe?

It does get a little disconcerning when you're sitting for up to an hour sometimes waiting for a response.

what would your advise be lady?

Sincerely,

(Anonymous)

Dear (Anonymous),

I suppose that I can refer to my own experience with being on the receiving end of this. I sometimes leave my IM on when I'm not around. It's not on purpose, but it happens.

I say, if the person generally responds to you, then chalk it up to them being busy. No response need be necessary on their part. They will be on to answer you when they have time.

Otherwise, if that person is someone with whom you don't regularly carry on a conversation, either consider it as a 'not interested', or someone who generally doesn't sit in one place for too long (i.e. the computer)

That would be my case. ;) I chat, get up, get a general case of ADD around the house, then my blonde self remembers that I was chatting.

Don't take it personally. It's probably not you. Most likely, you're talking to a "can't sit still for a minute" individual like me.
