Question: LS friendly counselor

Dear Lounge Advice,

Do you know of any lifestyle friendly counselors in the Sacramento/San Francisco area? I looked through the forums with no luck, and also searched Google, but all I could find were normal couple therapists. My husband and I just need someone to talk to about our relationship without feeling judged. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sincerely,

(Anonymous)

Dear (Anonymous),

Therapists are much like doctors. You won't find any lifestyle friendly doctors, persay, but complete honesty aids any caregiver in giving you the best treatment possible. They aren't there to judge- only to help you through your problems. Choose a regular therapist and make it clear right from the outset that you are in the lifestyle and fear being judged. Most likely, they'll be able to reassure you, or at least give you honest feedback about their approach to therapy given this factor.
Just as when we get treated by our physicians, we need to let them know that we have open relationships so that they can best treat us. Try this approach with a normal therapist. Shop around until you're comfortable, and see how this works. I actually found a FABULOUS therapist for couples here, was honest about the lifestyle and have nothing but rave reviews for how well she worked with that truth laid out on the table.
