With all the celebrations, gatherings and our busy schedules, there are the typical drinks and foods that cause staining, discoloration and cavities for example Red Wines, Coffees, Berries, cookies, cakes and more which we all love and enjoy.  Enjoying all the foods and festivities, we tend to forget or become too busy to care for or maintain our Gorgeous Smiles.

LLS friends wants everyone to enjoy all the favorites at celebration gatherings without holding back or worrying about tooth discoloration. There are ways to keep your brilliant smile dazzling sparkling white and healthy.

I as a graphic designer (she is), web development pro and web marketing pro, so I do extensive work for a renowned dentistry. Feel free to read below ... enjoy, hopefully it won't bore you to tears.

Hints, Tips and Products to keep your Smile Brilliant and Healthy during this Holiday Season of Celebrations.

Knowledge of the Food/Drink that causes tooth discoloration and decay

The Top Teeth-Staining Foods and Beverages

  1. Coffee. Bad news for coffee lovers, especially those Winter Coffee drinks, that you love can discolor your smile. The darker the coffee, the worse it is for your teeth. You can try lightening your coffee up with some milk, which will also give you an added bonus of calcium and vitamin D, which are both good for maintaining healthy white teeth.
  2. Wine. Red wine, an acidic beverage that contains chromogens and tannins, is notorious for staining teeth. It contains polyphenols, which help to prevent periodontal diseases that damage the gums and bone around teeth, which ultimately leads to tooth loss. However, those polyphenols are also responsible for causing tooth staining and the alcohol in red wine is highly acidic and wears away tooth enamel, exposing the soft yellow dentin underneath.
  3. Tea. Tea has been proven to be excellent for overall dental health. It is rich in compounds called tannins, that attack cavity causing bacteria and plaque. Like wine, the ordinary black tea most people drink is rich in stain-promoting tannins. However, black teas cause the worst stains, so stick to the light colored teas- green, white and herbal blends.
  4. Cranberry juice. A great antioxidant, Cranberry juice and other dark colored fruit juices are highly pigmented and can cause yellowing of the teeth. Cranberry juice contains very high amounts of sugar in order to offset its natural bitter taste and as we all know, sugar isn’t very good for teeth.
  5. Soy Sauce. It may be good on rice, but it isn’t good on your teeth. Soy sauce sticks to teeth and its deep colored pigments can cause bad stains. So, go easy on the soy sauce, the next time you’re at the sushi bar and rinse your mouth out with some water or green tea after eating it.
  6. Balsamic vinegar. Balsamic vinegar is a lot like soy sauce- it is deeply pigmented, clings to teeth and causes tooth discoloration. You could pair it with lettuce, by drizzling it over your salad. Lettuce forms a protective barrier over teeth to help keep them free from stains.
  7. Tomato Sauce. Italian food would just be a bunch of tasteless carbs without it. Tomato sauce is highly acidic and much like soy sauce and balsamic vinegar, clings to teeth and causes stains. You could have a spinach salad before eating your pasta or pizza. Much like lettuce, spinach will form a protective film over your teeth, helping to keep them free from stains.
  8. Berries. Blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, cherries, grapes, pomegranates, and other intensely colored fruits (and juices, pies, and other foods and beverages made from them) can cause stains.
  9. Sweets. Hard candies, popsicles, and other sweets including those fruit baked pies often contain teeth-staining coloring agents. If your tongue turns a funny color, there’s a good chance that your teeth will be affected, too.

Finally Tips for when you are out and about Celebrating Away from the Home

1. H2O. Swish and rinse your mouth out with either water frequently ingesting food and drinks/wines. When you are away from home, this helps keep the staining from sticking.

2. Brush. Take your toothbrush mobile! Did you know there are disposable toothbrushes with toothpaste? There is Colgate Wisp that is available at the supermarket.

3. Gum. Teeth Whitening sugarless gum. Trident, Wrigley's, and others have great products but make sure you stay away from die-colored gum.

When you are home

Highly recommend that all households should have, if possible, the Philips Sonicare™ Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush with UV Sanitizer, LISTERINE® Total Care. If you have not tried the Sonicare™, I recommend that you do, as it deeply cleans without destroying the enamel, effective as stain and plaque removal and prevention. Better yet, it leaves your teeth feeling polished and cleaned like you have just left the dental office after a deep cleaning. The UV sanitation and speed option is a great bonus and feature that is a-must-have. Its a great investment idea and its healthy for your smile.

To learn more about the features which we have not covered please visit Philips Sonicare™ Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush with UV Sanitizer website.
