Right before Easter, my 13 year old daughter started getting a really high fever, was sore and got a red rash over her arms, legs, stomach and face. The rash comes and goes when her fever gets high and goes away when it goes back down.

We had her at her pediatrician back then and they told us it was strep throat, even though the strep test was negative. They prescribed amoxicillin and she began taking it immediately. Then later that night, her fever got to 104.00 and since we weren't convinced it was strep because the test was negative and the fever got so high, we took her to the ER.

The ER doctor took one look at her rash and immediately said that she had Scarlet Fever...which I now understand is a type of strep, but it releases the toxin in the blood stream which is why you get the rash.

We wanted all bases covered so we ordered blood tests for lymes disease, rocky mountain spotted fever, strep, mono, and pneumonia. (I forgot to mention this...but in the meantime, her pediatrician had her stop the amoxicillin and start up with doxycycline just in case it was rocky mountain spotted fever in which the doxy would help for that and for strep).

So, a week goes by and we're waiting for all the blood tests...and every single one of them came back negative. She was doing fine on the doxy, no more symptoms. Keep in mind, all those tests came back negative. She took the full 10 days of the doxy and she was feeling 100% for the last 2 1/2 weeks, no symptoms of anything.

Yesterday morning, (after 2 1/2 weeks of being sypmtom free), she woke up for school and basically couldn't move her joints, she had pain all over and started getting a high fever again. She got a little bit of the rash she had last time, but not nearly as bad...but the musle pain was much more worse this time...took her 10 minutes to get out of bed. We immediately took her back to her doctor and they ordered another round of testing for strep, lymes, mono, pneumonia, and rocky mtn spotted fever, blood count and she also got X-rays of her knee which is where the pain was the worst. Most of the tests came back today and again...all negative! They missed doing one test and we're taking her back tomorrow for auto immune.

Help...what do we do if all these tests keep coming back negative?? How can we find out what's wrong?? Again, symptoms include:

Fever
red rash when fever is real high
muscle/joint pain
bloodshot eyes when fever is high

Thank you in advance for any response!

Is it possible it could be lupus? How can that be tested for? Do those other tests that she's already had often come back with false negatives?
